Duration: 3 hours
Meeting point: Parliament House

Cameras, their functions and all their accessories can be overwhelming if you’re not already familiar with them. Learn how to use your camera to capture moments, events, and people in your everyday life.

The class will cover a range of technical aspects, including aperture, shutter speed and ISO. You’ll also cover focal length and lenses, lighting and correct exposure, among other photography principles.

This class takes you on a walking tour around Adelaide, so you can practise in different surroundings. By the end of the class, you’ll have the confidence to apply your new skills in a variety of situations.

Your experience doesn’t stop once the class ends - you can share your photos with your peers on the Adelaide Photography Facebook Group and there's also a Beginner Photographers Facebook group where members can exchange photography tips, ask questions, receive constructive criticism on photos and discuss upcoming events.

Participants are required to bring the following to the class:
Digital camera that has a manual settings option
Fully charged batteries (and spares if possible)
Blank image cards (two or more, formatted if possible)
Camera manual

Class sizes are kept small so each participant will have a chance to interact with the host on a one-to-one basis. There will be a substantial amount of walking involved on the day, so please wear comfortable shoes and bring an umbrella or a hat should the weather call for it.

Let the Adelaide Photography Group help you create beautiful moments with every click of the shutter.

I found that Mark was very informative, encouraged us to ask questions, and was always there to help, along with the structure of taking photos

The beginner session was very relaxed and the pace was generally set by the least knowledgeable person in the group. Which was fine as it gave plenty of time to experiment with the 'tasks' set. I had a feeling the course would be a little too 'beginner' when I signed up but I did still learn some tricks and tips from the instructor. If your knowledge of your camera is limited to powering it on and turning the dial to FULL AUTO then this will be a very useful course. However, if you know about shutter speed, ISO and aperture then you will probably find a lot of the information a bit basic.

Thoroughly enjoyed this course, just wish we were 30 years younger. Our brains were like jelly and at the end we were getting tired. However we learnt enough to be able to get our cameras out and use on manual mode. The notes to take home are useful and Maurizio was very knowledgable and friendly.

Very well organised morning. He simplified everything and tasks given consolidated his teaching. He was very patient with everyone and despite everyone having different cameras he managed to spend time with everyone and ask any questions that arose.

A Perfect intro to DSLR for beginners! This course was very well structured covering the basics and lots more including very useful notes to take home. Maurizio (our tutor) was extremely helpful and generous in sharing his wealth of knowledge and passion for photography! I came away with a big burst of inspiration and confidence. Highly recommend this course. 10/10

Well thought out, well presented "beginner" content. There was time, and patience shown, to sort out individual participant's camera features. Good instructor!

It was all I expected and more. To get back to the basics was my aim and to understand the manual workings of my camera. This was most definitely achieved and thank you to Maurisio for being so patient and understanding of this not so young student.
